Do Moms have Desires?

Hey mama! Have you met someone new and had them ask what you like to do? I see you over there struggling to come up with something that isn’t changing diapers, picking up messes, or going to events for your kids. It can feel uncomfortable or embarrassing.

I know for me, I felt like an imposter at adult functions without other stay at home moms. I could talk to my kids’ friends better than another adult in the grocery store line. What happened to me? I used to have dreams and interests that didn’t relate to keeping little humans alive and clean.

The solution to this problem is easier than you think? Just start asking, “What do I want?”

Time to eat dinner, simply ask what do I want? And then answer that question for yourself. Maybe I want Chinese Take-Out, but we are eating chicken nuggets. Just be honest with yourself that Chinese Take-out sounds good.

Taking your kids to story time, explore what you might enjoy reading or learning about.

Getting out of bed in the morning. Ask your what do I want to do today. Be careful, don’t let your brain trick you into answering what do I need to get done.

Collect all those little answers like data in science experiment. It is neither good or bad. It is just data. Once you have collected enough you can start evaluating that data and picking something implement in your life.

Your want is like a muscle. The more you do simple exercises with it, the stronger it gets. The stronger it gets, the easier it is to have wants. Wants are just data. It’s totally normal and human to want things.

Some of us have not used our want muscle in a really long time. Or we are judgmental of our wants, and they are scared to show themselves.

Schedule a free Explore Coaching Call with me, and we can start building that muscle up.
