Are you scared of failure? Most people are. But what if failure is great news? Let’s learn how to use failing to succeed.
What is failure?
Failure is simply not getting something right that you try to do. For me, it may look like a blogpost nobody reads, yelling at my kids, or falling off the diet wagon again.
We are conditioned to excel at all things. Other than learning to walk and crawl, how many new skills have you learned in your lifetime where people cheered you on when you failed. Most kids are pushed to have good grades, high test scores, be on the winning team, earn that scholarship, etc. This taught us as kids that the final outcome is the important part.
But lets explore that for a bit. Which has been more beneficial in your life: learning your math facts and spelling words over the years or the diploma that was applauded at the end. My guess is knowing the knowledge has been more beneficial than the piece of paper.
What did it take to learn those math facts and spelling words. I don’t know about you, but I didn’t try them once and have them down pat. I had to try again and again until it became habit (most of the time). Each try was another opportunity to fail. All those failures added up to me eventually knowing my math facts and spelling words.
Fear of Failure
So why is it that as adults, we berate ourselves for failing? Guess what, we still learn the same way. Try by try, fail by fail. Each failure gives us a little more insight. Another clue on how to do it or not do it.
Overcoming Failure
Overcome your fear of failing by celebrating each failed attempt. This doesn’t mean that we try to do poorly on purpose. It means we give it our best. We celebrate the try and recognize what we learned from the failure. Then like a science experiment, we alter our process and try again.
If you can get over your fear of failure, you can do anything you want in life! So go work on overcoming failure. And as always, book a FREE explore coaching call if you want to reach your goals faster.
