Self Care
Are you feeling anxious to have your kids home from school during Christmas Break? You have so much to do and now your babysitter (aka school) is off duty for two to three weeks? Yikes!
Feeling overwhelmed with the to do list, entertaining the kids, handling the extra stress from schedule changes, and your desire to just enjoy the holiday?
Don’t worry, I’ve got you.
Self care is what we do to take care of ourselves. It tends to be trendy right now. I picture bubble baths with candles, getting my nails done, or a spa day. Not really things I get to do on the regular. Nor do they make me feel better long term.
So what is self care then? It is something small or large that makes you feel better. It works better if we use it regularly rather than just when we are frazzled or burnt out.
Self care is as different as every individual. There is no right or wrong way to do it. Simply try something and see if you feel better or not. Don’t be afraid to try different ideas or think outside the box. Browse thru some of the ideas that I’ve come up with and let the inspiration flow.
You deserve to enjoy the holidays too!
Examples of self care:
Pet your pet.
Watch a favorite movie.
Have a favorite treat.
Eat to feel good physically.
Take a walk.
Call a friend.
Say no to something you don’t really want to do.
Give yourself grace for not being perfect.
Read a book or magazine.
Hide from your family and enjoy 10 minutes of quiet.
Go for a pretty drive.
Dance to your favorite songs.
Stare at the Christmas tree/lights.
Listen to a podcast or audio book.
Work on your hobby for awhile (even 5 minutes).
Feed the kids in front of the TV, so you don’t have to fight them to sit still.
Use a freezer meal or take out instead of cooking.
Figure out how to laugh at something.
Remind yourself you are perfect just the way you are.
Slow down and recognize what emotions you have in your body right now.
Talk to yourself kindly in the mirror as you brush your teeth.
Tell yourself, “Good job!”
Allow yourself to feel negative sometimes.
Remember why you love you and/or others.
Do five minutes of a favorite exercise.
Have a Very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
