Are you having a blah day? Nobody loves feeling that way. Read on to learn five strategies to recover from feeling blah!
1. Recognize It
The first strategy to dealing with feeling blah, is to recognize it for what it is. Blah is a human emotion. Emotions are neither bad or good. They just are. The first thing to do is realize that nothing has gone wrong because you feel blah. Every human feels it at times. It is part of the experience of being a human being. It is 100% normal to feel this way sometimes.
2. Just Feel Blah
Now that you know feeling blah is normal and nothing to fear, you want to just allow the emotion. Did you know that emotions only last up to 90 seconds in body if we don’t resist them? Also our body knows what to do with emotions if we don’t resist them.
So its time to get inside your body and leave your brain behind for a minute. Close your eyes and see if you can see what blah feels like in your body. How would you describe it to an alien who has never experienced it before? Where is it in your body? Do you picture it having a color? Does it move around or stay still? How would you describe its texture? Is it warm or cool?
Just stay with it as long as its there. The goal isn’t to get rid of the blah feeling, but to become okay with it. When we truly become ok with it then it will come and go. Usually in smaller doses at a time. If you did this right, it should feel like a weight has been lifted from your shoulders.
3. Check-in with Yourself
Now that we’ve felt the emotion that is totally normal to have, its time to check in with yourself. Are you needing something? Tired? Bored? Resentful? Antsy? Don’t judge what you need. Let it come up and watch like a movie. Is this something you can give yourself? How can you give yourself this gift?
4. Make a Decision
Once you have excepted the blah, felt the blah, and checked-in with yourself, you are ready to decide if you want to keep feeling blah. Maybe it makes sense in your life right now. It’s okay to decide to stay in a blah mood for awhile.
If you decide you are ready to move on from blah, then move onto step number 5.
5. Get Excited
Pick another emotion you want to feel and create it. For me personally I like to get excited about something to move out of blah. You can do that by deliberately choosing what you are thinking. I can choose a new project to think about, or decide to find a fun way to move my body (aka dance party), etc.
If you don’t know what to be excited about just offer your brain an empowering question like, “I wonder what I could get excited about?” Your brain loves to answer questions and will start looking for answers.
